Meet The Herd
The herd at Equinimity lives in a situation that is not commonly found in many communities these days.
Because horses are herd animals, having even a fence between horses restricts their ability to interact naturally. They also need space to run if they feel threatened in any way. That is why, at Equinimity, our herd shares a large area where they can interact and run as they desire.
Natural surroundings and herd interaction creates more coherent nervous systems, resulting in better overall health and longevity.
Freedom

Freedom has lived up to her name in many ways.
As sensitive and basically timid as she has been since birth, her calm and sleepy demeanor can become an explosion of movement when she's inspired!
Her athleticism and spirit can also inspire us!
Epona
Breed: Mustang
Color: Black Bay
Gender: Mare
Epona is the youngest member of our herd, but by no means the least wise.
She is a natural leader, but is a vigilant sentinel and even can be nurturing when a situation seems like a threat to "her" herd.
Her most favorite thing is to snuggle her head into a willing participant's chest, and become very still.
Big Red
Breed: Quarter Horse
Color: Sorrel
Gender: Gelding
Big Red spent his younger years running barrels and winning quarter mile races. After winning $60,000 for his owners, his age and injuries forced them to retire him from competition.
Big Red moved full time to Equinimity in the spring of 2022. He immediately began working with clients.
His experience with overcoming past trauma made him uniquely suitable as a therapy horse. He is often the first to volunteer to work with people who need a calm gentle presence to journey with them as they work on the issues that brought them to Equinimity.
Takoda

Color: Red Roan
Gender: Colt
Called Taki for short, Takoda (pronounced Ta-Kay-Doh) is a one-year-old Mustang. His name honors his Navajo heritage and means a friend to all. Curious, affectionate and smart, he is indeed, a friend to all.
His greatest desire is to be right in the middle of everything, interacting with people and the rest of the herd. He also loves to play with his brother Ahanu, and their wild, joyful play is a sight to behold.
He is learning about healing from the elders of the herd and beginning to step into his work as a medicine horse.
Ahanu
Breed: Mustang
Color: Black
Gender: Colt
Ahanu came to Equinimity because of a dream, where, as a tiny colt, he hopped into Jennie's lap, looking for refuge.
The synchronicities of his introduction to us were a testament to the Spirit of Horse as Healer.
With the support and guidance of Little Man, Epona and Blue, we have been witnessing the next generation of equine healers in Ahanu and his buddy Taki.
In Honor Of...
Little Big Man
Breed: Pony
Color: Black
Gender: Gelding
Little Man is only little in body…not in spirit!! He has grown to be more expressive in the few years he's been with us, in a very delightful and heart-warming way. With his white circled eyes, he looks like a war pony that's been painted to strengthen his senses; and it seems to be working! Little Big Man passed away on August 3, 2026.
Blue
Breed: Quarterhorse
Color: Blue Roan
Gender: Male
Blue has the Wisdom of a Sage and has been slowly teaching the younger horses what his Life experiences have taught him. He constantly amazes us with his ability to detect and support the healing needs of others. Each episode feels magical and leaves us in awe. Do beware, though—Blue likes to remove hats!! Blue passed away on May 7, 2026.
Destiny
Breed: Quarter Horse Mix
Color: Sorrel
Gender: Mare
Destiny came to us with the name that rings true for so many who came in contact with this mare of Great "Horse"-nality. In spite of her physical challenges, she held her own in the herd, and quickly bonded to others who felt challenged. Destiny touched the hearts of many and we will be forever grateful that she was a part of our herd. Destiny passed away on March 7, 2022.
Brown
Breed: American Quarter Horse
Color: Brown Bay
Gender: Male
Brown joined us from Barbara Rector's herd of amazing horses that she has worked with through Adventures In Awareness. Brown quickly found his place in the herd when he joined us in January of 2020. At first he seemed to keep a distance from our sessions, but gradually became more curious and much more playful. He has tickled a lot of hands and faces with his searching upper lip and worked his way into many hearts. Brown passed away February 7, 2025. We feel his presence in sessions frequently.
