Horse Handling 101
Whether you want to deepen your relationship with your own horse or begin building relationships with horses in the context of Equine-Assisted Therapies, Horse Handling 101 offers a place to begin learning the language of connection with horses.
This interactive, three-hour experience combines discussion, simulations, observation, and hands-on learning with the Equinimity herd. Together, we'll explore how awareness, communication, preparation, and relationship create the foundation for meaningful work with horses.
We learn to slow down. To notice. To listen. To respond. And to discover what becomes possible when we meet the horse as a partner.

Reading the Horse
Noticing body language, including eyes, ears, breathing, posture, movement, tension, and softness.
Tools for Connection
Exploring rope handling, tying, and training stick proficiency.
Ask & Draw
Learning ways to invite a horse into relationship and respond to what happens next.
Knowing the Horse
Exploring each horse's unique history, personality, needs, and ways of relating.
Setting the Stage for Success
Considering herd dynamics, weather, treats, injuries, and other factors that influence an experience.
Herd Dynamics & “Horsenalities”
Learning to notice individual personalities and the ever-changing relationships within a herd.

Horse Handling 101 is Phase 1 in Equinimity's pathway toward becoming a certified Horse Handler for Equine-Assisted Therapies. Phase 1 is a prerequisite for Phase 2, planned for 2027.
Whether you're beginning that pathway or simply want to deepen your relationship with horses, you are welcome here.
